Spare time spare???

Do you have a small but regular amount of spare time that you could use to help West Tytherley Village Shop?  Our book-keeper is standing down at the end of March and we need someone to take on this vital role, which helps ensure that we keep track of our finances, pay the right amount of VAT and take sensible investment decisions.  Attention to detail is important and computer skills would help.  The role is assumed to be voluntary but we would be willing to consider professional service if costs are modest.  Please contact James Strachan on 017 94 34 17 69 or strachanj@gmail.com.

Lockerley Community Security Committee

At the public meeting concerning Travellers held on October 17th 2011 it was proposed that a committee be formed specifically to work with land owners, (including the Parish Council) to help protect the village against unlawful camping and to help deal with any related problems that might occur.

This committee has now been formed and is called the Lockerley Community Security Committee (LCSC).  In order for it to work effectively and because events can happen unexpectedly, it would be useful to have the names of anyone who would be prepared to help.

So please will anyone who feels they could give practical help (say clearing rubbish/ writing a letter) or anyone who would be willing to contribute or make a pledge towards any expenses that might be incurred, give their name to one of the committee below.  There was a terrific response to the Public Meeting, but, as became apparent, it will take the ongoing resolve of the village, together with maximum support from the authorities, to solve this problem.

The  committee are Len Arthur 017 94 34 24 99, Tony Boatfield 34 02 51, Peter Batten 34 12 62, Mark Chambers 34 09 13, Michael Perkins 34 02 81, Heather Kirk 34 24 88, Bill McClintock 34 14 00, David Powell 34 13 60, Gerry Hewett 34 04 11, and Graham Thomson 34 05 88.

Poppy Appeal 2011

The 2011 Poppy Appeal raised a total of £3151.02 from the villages of Lockerley, East Tytherley, West Tytherley, East Dean, West Dean, Carters Clay and Stony Batter.  Once the Gift Aid has been added, this should be increased to about £3220, an increase on last year of some £180.  This is a wonderful result in these difficult economic times and I must thank all those who so generously contributed to the Appeal.  I would also like to thank the very willing band of house to house collectors and the people who helped count the large amount of notes and coins donated, an onerous task in itself.  Finally, I am most grateful to the local schools, pubs and shops that so readily allowed the Appeal to display its trays on their premises -  Robin Garrett,  West Tytherley.

Village Hall Cleaner needed

Thank you

Lockerley Coffee Shop - Q and A

Q: Where can you buy some stamps, post a parcel, collect some euros for your holiday and have coffee and homemade cake at the same time?

A: At Lockerley Memorial Hall on Monday and Thursday mornings from 0900 - 1300 when the outreach Post Office opens at the same time as the Coffee Shop.

Q: Who runs the Coffee Shop?

A: A group of over 30 volunteers who serve the coffee, bake cakes or set up the tables and chairs and have great fun doing so.

We are always happy to recruit more helpers, so if you would like to join this enthusiastic band please get in touch with one of the following: Hilary Thompson 017 94 34 14 62, Margaret Niblett 34 05 87, Sally Masters 34 02 15, or Jan Musson 34 05 86.

A thank you

Debbie, Peter, Leo and Minnie would like to thank the extremely kind couple.  It was much appreciated.  We hope you have a very Happy New Year.

Graham Moore

The families of Pam, Jim and Dot offer their heartfelt thanks to all the good people whose kind thoughts have been with us since the loss of our much loved Graham.

Oil Buying Group

Heating oil is expensive at the best of times but taking part in a buying group may help to cut the cost.  Negotiating a lower cost is possible because a tanker can deliver to a number of householders in the same post code group economically in a single visit.  There's a note - in PDF - about the scheme on the www.lockerley.org.uk/resources page.

Scrabble around???

Valda White is exploring the idea of starting a Scrabble group at Mottisfont Village Hall for enthusiasts or beginners.  We would play by the rules but nothing too cut-throat; it needs to be enjoyable for all.  Possibly fortnightly either on a Tuesday or Friday or perhaps a daytime Group would be preferred.  Cost would only be to cover hire of the Hall for 3 hours and a cup of tea and depends on how many people came on each occasion.

Have a word with me or come along on Tuesday March 6th by 1915 for a discussion and a trial run.  Bring a board and letters if you can.  Valda White – 017 94 36 83 46  valdawhite@btinternet.com.

The 200 Club in 2012

This popular village draw is organised for the Memorial Hall by Carole Woolley, Willingale House, Butts Green, Lockerley 017 94 34 08 67 e-mail  roywoolley@btinternet.com.  A big thank you to all those members who steadfastly pay their subs by direct debit.  It helps so much.  Thank you to all members.  Your contributions help our Hall considerably.

Now is the time for existing members, and NEW members, to join for 2012.  The annual cost is £12 and there are two monthly prizes of £20, except in June and December when there is one prize of £50. Additionally there are currently two extra quarterly of £25 and one of £20 in Nov. i.e. £720 in prizes.  However the prize pot DOES depend on membership numbers.  If numbers fall, so do prizes.  All members or couples may have more than one entry.  Everyone must be over 16.  All profit goes to the Memorial Hall funds as there are no expenses.

Please let Carole have your subscription now or as soon as possible, but by the beginning of February at the very latest if you awant to be in the January draw.  Cheques are better than cash.  Cheques should be written to Lockerley & East Dean Memorial Hall and preferably posted or delivered to the above address. Please try and help to make Carole’s job that much easier.  Good luck to everyone.  The odds are excellent and you will be helping Lockerley Memorial Hall.
